The Beginning of God

I read a forum the other day, and I’ve heard some of my friends ask me wondering about the beginning of God. Did God have a Creator? How has God always been there?

God’s Word reveals that the LORD is the “I AM”. He always has been, and always will be existent. This idea of infinity or eternity is not an impossible thought. King David reflects on this saying:

as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. —Psalm 103:12

If you keep traveling east around the world, you’ll never end up traveling west. Therefore, David is saying the LORD has eternally removed our sins from us. One must also consider that God originally created the earth around the sun and the moon around the sun to establish time. Before the Earth, time was non-existent or infinite. Even if there was a point or a moment when God came into being, we can’t say that there was a point or a moment because those reference to a time frame which was nonexistent before the Earth, and clearly God was in existence before the Earth.

If you study Calculus, you’ll learn that there are limits and infinities. When something is zero, it means infinite. The proof behind that is revealed through set theory. Zero is an infinite number of empty sets. Some logicians attempt to measure the unsolvability of certain problems. Physicians and Chemists try to discover a unit of matter smaller than an atom, called the String Theory. If the String Theory is true, it would reveal more than three dimensions (a number of anywhere from 11 to 13 total dimensions). It also discusses infinity, and the theory that if one walks into a wall for an infinity that there is a slight chance that that person would be able to walk through the wall.

Before Adam and Eve sinned against God in the Garden of Eden, they were made to live for eternity. God engineered human beings for eternity. Before the flood of Noah, human beings lived to be hundreds of years old. Some choose eternal death while others choose eternal life through the blood of God’s son, Jesus Christ. We as human beings place infinity in a box and called that box zero so that we can control and rap our minds around the idea of something existing forever. God existed outside of time, so we can’t really say that God had a beginning. Therefore God always has been existing, and always will be existing.

Temptation.

That’s a hard word to define without experience. Here’s my definition: temptation is when some outside force pressures you into doing something you know is wrong either by experience or by hearing from someone else. Temptation will drive you to the edge of your will, and pressure you into hell blinded over by an illusion of heaven.

It’s difficult to fight temptation; Jesus sweat was proof of that:

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
—Luke 22:44

Satan was in Jesus’ mind tempting him with all his might. Jesus seemed to have an infinite tolerance to temptation—infallible and unbreakable. We are to strive for His quality of integrity, and that’s easier said than done.

Temptation is Satan’s sword in the spiritual battle going on around us. Satan, being a spiritual creature, must go from the spiritual realm through the emotional realm to reach the physical realm (if you don’t understand what I mean, read my previous post on being last and first). Temptation, a spiritual experience, lies in the emotional and physical realms. Satan uses “happiness”, pain, and emotions to pressure us into our greatest spiritual downfalls.

Thankfully, God didn’t leave us empty handed. He gave us His Word, and place His Holy Spirit in us to help us stay alert. We are to meditate on God’s Word so that it becomes written on our hearts. This helps us to prepare for an attack in that we can remember what God expects of us. The Holy Spirit helps protect us and counteract temptation by placing a mindful guilty feeling in our stomachs to remind us to remain obedient to God’s Word. This mindful guilty feeling can be anything from a weak guilt to a large guilt. It becomes a large guilt when we don’t do something or say something that we are suppose to say or do.

Obedience to God is the ultimate goal. Make decisions slowly with much advice from strong Christian friends and God’s Word. Temptation can make one antsy and pressure one to make quick decisions, but don’t make quick decisions. Pray about the things that flood your mind, and fight against your own thoughts through resistance and lack of obedience to those thoughts. If you give in to one temptation, beware as many more are not far behind, and be focused, alert, and resistant. Do what is right according to what God has spoken to you through His Word and Holy Spirit.

I love this song because it talks about being born-again as a son or daughter of God. In the beginning, God names you (creates you). I just picture this naked newly born baby—innocent, pure, needy, and humble—with everyone around being so ecstatic, or overjoyed. That’s how it is when someone is born-again into God’s kingdom.

This movie was very impressive. It really made my heart sink back and realize the value of one’s ability to speak clearly. I don’t think there is anything more humbling than not being able to communicate clearly with others. Speech and communication is one of the primitive functions of a human being, and if one can’t use this function effectively, it makes one seem lower than a human being. However, no one can go lower than a human being. We were made from dirt, and each person has his or her own personal struggle in life.

Sometimes the words that come out of my mouth, come out with a studder, or I can’t seem to talk with words that make sense together. From The King’s Speech, I found it interesting that all it took to breach fear, doubt, depression, loneliness, and absence of self-worth in one’s voice was a patient friend. I noticed that I avoid people sometimes because of fear and worry. It isn’t so much that I dislike people, but more that I have trouble feeling comfortable and friendly around others. Each person has his or her own boundaries and beliefs that cause conflict, disinterest, or worse, deflection. Many people see correction as attack or conflict, while Christians view correction as a blessing.

I avoid people because the relationships I build with others exceed boundaries, beliefs, and traditions to the point of deflection and disinterest. My heart cares for my friends like family, but family seems to be going out of style with high divorce rates and broken children. I attempt to love people as God calls His sons and daughters to love people (via 1 Corinthians 13).

God and my fiancee are my patient friends that have stood the test of time with my different personality. God, specifically the Holy Spirit, is my guide who knows me completely and how to lead me out of fear, doubt, and worry. My fiancee, Serenity Elizabeth, is my encouragement to socialize with others.

I just saw The Hunchback of Notre Dame for the first time the other day. When Esmeralda enters the church and claims sanctuary, she hears people praying to God. They ask for common things like good health, wealth, and blessings, but they ask it only for themselves. I feel that many times when people start to pray before God it’s mostly requests and asking of Him for wants and desires. I think people speak and ask too much, and not enough according to God’s Will or His desire.

God gave up His firstborn and only Son for us, and He sent part of Himself, the Holy Spirit, as a gift to guide us. Is it respectful or appropriate to continue to ask for more?

Jabez prays to God asking for blessing, and God granted him his request. I believe this case was acceptable because Jabez included that he wanted to be closer to God and acknowledged that God is the source in the process. God is making an investment in Jabez to be an agent of justice in the world. As Jabez becomes closer to God, the more he follows, loves, and trusts in God’s plan for justice in the world. I truly believe Jabez’ intentions were that he wanted more resources and authority in order to help others.

In The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Esmeralda asks God for nothing, but to bless the outcasts, others.

Here are some (not all) guidelines of respect that can be followed:

1) Ultimately, God wants us to be close to Him; this includes accepting His gift of eternal life, healing relationships, reconciliation, and asking for grace when we mess up. We have to know and accept the Son to speak with the Father. Clean your heart through forgiveness in Christ before you bring it before God; He’s not a big fan of unclean things.
2) God desires every kind of justice in the world, including resource justice (where resources are equally spread out before all livings beings).
3) God wants us to be focused on injustices done to others in our asking, that justice may be restored to those individuals.
4) We need to be still and patient in asking. God doesn’t need to be asked twice like a human being. He knows what He’s doing; He’s perfect in every way, including His timing.
5) Speak and ask from your heart, not out of idleness, or gibberish. God knows everything about you; don’t say something that you don’t mean deep down even if everyone else is praying or doing it. God knows!

A very good friend of mine sent the women on our summer ministry Psalm 46 for encouragement today. As I was thinking about the messages of this chapter and what they mean for my life right now, another verse was brought to my mind. I thought about the verse that says that Jesus is the “author and perfecter” of our faith. It’s Hebrews 12:2,

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (emphasis is mine).
